SOURCE Report:
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating a plane crash that occurred in Juana Díaz, Puerto Rico, resulting in the death of a woman who was identified as a resident of the United States. The incident took place around 2:00 PM on Friday on the grounds of a farm in the Manzanilla neighborhood.

Emergency units from the Office of Emergency Management and Disaster Administration (NMEAD) in Ponce were activated to respond to the crash. Initial reports confirmed that the victim was piloting a Cessna 172S Skyhawk SP, with registration number N22088, and was flying solo. Authorities indicated that the woman was an aviation student who had been accumulating flight hours and had performed at least two “touch-and-go” landings at the Antonio Rivera Rodríguez Airport in Vieques earlier that day.

The investigation involves multiple agencies, including the Office of Municipal Emergency Management of Juana Díaz, the Puerto Rico Police Bureau, the Firefighters Bureau, and the Department of Justice in Ponce. The FAA took control of the scene to examine the circumstances leading to the accident. Inspector Daniel Justiniano, director of the Criminal Investigations Corps (CIC) in Ponce, verified the involvement of these agencies and confirmed the victim’s residency in the United States.

Reports from the FAA’s records indicate that the aircraft, manufactured in 2007, is owned by Flight World, Inc., a company based in San Juan that operates out of Fernando Luis Ribas Dominicci Airport, also known as Isla Grande. The company is involved in buying, selling, leasing, and repairing airplanes, as well as providing hangar rentals and aviation fuel services.

The ill-fated aircraft had completed two earlier flights that same day. The first flight, lasting 32 minutes, departed from Isla Grande at 8:58 AM, flying along the northern coast before returning. The second flight, recorded at 10:45 AM, lasted 51 minutes and also departed and returned to Isla Grande after flying over Vega Baja and Toa Baja. The crash occurred during the aircraft’s third flight.

Flight World, Inc. has not issued any official statements regarding the incident. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and the FAA is expected to provide updates as more details emerge.
