A Piper PA-42-1000 Cheyenne 400LS, PR-NDN crashed on the morning of Sunday, December 22, in Gramado, Rio Grande do Sul. All ten occupants of the aircraft were fatally injured. The Cheyenne was piloted by businessman Luiz Claudio Salgueiro Galeazzi, aged 61, and was carrying nine members of his family. The flight was bound for Jundiaí, located in the interior of São Paulo. Departing from Canela Airport, near Gramado, the aircraft covered approximately two miles before impacting terrain seconds after takeoff.
The crash occurred in a densely populated urban area, striking the chimney of a building, a residential house, a furniture store, and a guesthouse. Seventeen individuals sustained injuries, the majority requiring medical attention for smoke inhalation. Two women were reported to be in critical condition. A tourist who witnessed the event described widespread panic and chaos following the incident. Video footage of the crash, captured by onlookers, was later released by authorities.
The Canela municipal government confirmed that Civil Defense teams were immediately mobilized to secure the site, and RS-235 was closed to traffic. Officials warned of a potential explosion risk in the vicinity due to fuel leakage. Luiz Claudio Galeazzi, who served as the CEO of Galeazzi & Associados, was traveling with his wife, three daughters, mother-in-law, sister, brother-in-law, and two nephews.
Galeazzi held a degree in Business Administration from Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV) and led the family-owned firm, which specialized in crisis management and corporate restructuring. His professional portfolio included involvement in numerous judicial recovery processes, both domestically and internationally. The company was originally founded by his father, Cláudio Galeazzi, a prominent figure in the field of corporate restructuring, who passed away in March 2023 after a battle with cancer.
Tragically, this incident mirrors a previous loss for the Galeazzi family. In 2010, Luiz’s mother, Maria Leonor Salgueiro Galeazzi, died in the crash of a twin-engine aircraft near Sorocaba, São Paulo. (G1, 2024)
